Today I wanted to share a little bit about my exercise routine. I get a lot of questions about how I find the time to fit in exercise. The truth is, it’s freaking tough. With my work schedule, I’m out of the house before 7 AM and not home until after I pick up the kids from school – so basically I’m either at work, or with my girls. Driving to a gym is completely out of the question unless I want to wake up at 4:00 AM and that, my friends, is never going to happen.
I turned to the Tracy Anderson Method ELEVEN years ago after giving birth to Regan. At this point in time, I had over 20 lbs. to loose ( I happily gained 50 lbs. with my first pregnancy and I’m only 5’1) and not a whole lot of free time to commit to losing it. A dear friend snail mailed me a Tracy Anderson DVD and I was hooked – mainly because I was able to exercise in between Regan’s naps, with spit up on my shirt and without having to brush my teeth.
The Tracy Anderson Method is a mat + cardio workout that changes every 7 days to allow your muscles to be challenged, and to keep them from becoming complacent. Think lots of reps with smaller hand and ankle weights. The method offers a library of DVDs and the ability to live stream Tracy’s weekly classes. There are three levels – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The cardio classes are around 30 minutes and the mat classes range from 50 to 78 minutes, depending on the level! I started with the dvds but have since switched to her live streaming classes which give me the opportunity to exercise whenever I can find the time – usually around 4:00 pm. Every week I strive to do the below (key word being strive):
Monday – 60 minutes of Advanced Mat
Tuesday – 30 minutes of Dance Cardio
Wednesday – 60 minutes of Advanced Mat
Thursday – 30 minutes of Dance Cardio
Friday – 60 minutes of Advanced Mat
Saturday – 60 minutes of Advanced Mat
The above, coupled with my meal plan, really does help to keep me in check but some weeks are definitely easier than others. Lately, I’ve only been able to squeeze in three days. The truth is finding the time and energy to exercise is a constant struggle but it’s the only outlet I have found that clears my head and helps me to manage life’s daily stresses. Bottom line – you have to figure out what works for you. Much like meal planning, you have to be realistic about what you are willing to do or it will never work.
How do you find the time to fit in exercise? I’d love to hear what works best for you! Message me!!
