Ava decided she wanted to celebrate her 10th birthday party at my Aunt & Uncle’s vacation home in a very remote location – no restaurants or shops within 20 miles. I must say I was a little panicked about what five girls would do to fill the 32 hours of time so I convinced Ava we should do a hot cocoa bar with a ginger bread house decorating craft. Thank the Lord she agreed. The hot chocolate bar came together in no time – I just placed a few toppings on a tray and threw a few ingredients into the crock pot. Have you ever made hot cocoa from scratch? If not, what are you waiting for? Takes five minutes and tastes like heaven. Here’s the recipe along with a few pictures from the celebration!
I grabbed most of the toppings from Trader Joes including the gingerbread kits – heath bar, sprinkles, marshmallows (various sizes) Ghirardelli caramel & chocolate sauces, star mint cookies, chocolate covered marshmallows and peppermint bark rounded out the bar. Such a fun and inexpensive activity for a winter birthday party!
