As much as I love a hamburger and hotdog straight off of the grill, I wanted to do something a little different for Labor Day this year. I needed a plan that would keep our extended crew mostly outside because of COVID so I landed on a pizza grilling party to celebrate the holiday.
This is one of my favorite family friendly party ideas! Guests get to customize their own pizzas with lots of fun toppings and they can even eat the finished product with their hands – less work for you! Sharing how to host a simple pizza bar grilling party for your family and friends this Labor Day!
What You Need
- Pizza Dough (3 lbs. of dough will feed about 6 – 8 people) You can make your own but they sell pre-made dough in the refrigerated section of most grocers for $3. Make it easy on yourself.
- Olive oil
- Flour
What You Do
- Heat the grill to about 400 degrees and carefully grease the grates. (Olive oil soaked paper towels work well – use tongs to rub paper towel over grates)
- While the grill is heating up, roll out your pizza dough. Make sure to heavily flour the surface you are rolling your dough out on or it will stick. You can form 6 – 8 smaller pizzas or you can keep them larger – totally up to you
- Place the shaped pizza dough on a very well oiled pan until ready to grill
- Once the grill is heated, carefully place the raw dough on the grates. Cook for about 3 – 5 minutes until the dough begins to bubble
- Remove from grill (don’t flip to cook the other side) and bring to the pizza topping table – this is where your guests can build their pizzas!
- Once your guests have loaded up their crust with all of their favorites, place the dressed pizza back on the grill for another five minutes. You can cover the grill if needed
- TIP – to help speed up the process for larger crowds you can put the dressed pizzas in a 425 degree oven for a few minutes to finish cooking
Pizza Bar Toppings
- Marinara Sauce
- Basil Pesto
- Bacon Crumbles
- Minced Garlic
- Pepperoni
- Crumbled Sausage
- Grated Parmesan
- Mozzarella
- Fresh Mozzarella
- Goat Cheese
- Prosciutto
- Arugula
- Jalapenos
- Cooked Bell Peppers
- Sundried Tomatoes
- Mushrooms
- Olives
I hope all of you have a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day weekend! Cheers friends.
[…] Sunday, May 30th | Pizza Bar | Total Time: 45 minutes | Believe it or not, the camping crew will gather Sunday evening to break bread together for the fifteenth time. I snagged a few boxes of DePalo’s frozen pizza dough crusts ($3.99 for two) and will pull them out to thaw as soon as we get home Sunday. Everyone can contribute a topping or two which makes for an easy and inexpensive crowd pleaser! […]
