I love bringing outside elements inside to decorate for the holidays. They look natural and elegant all while costing close to nothing. This year for my Thanksgiving centerpiece I decided to use magnolia leaves from my front yard and a few oranges as the main focal point of my arrangement.
I had Patrick cut down a few magnolia branches and literally sat them inside a dough bowl. You could use floral foam placed in the bottom of the bowl to give this arrangement more structure if you prefer. I was without foam and short on time so I decided to wing it.
Instead of floral foam, I placed oranges inside of the bowl to give some depth and a little pop of color and then I just filled in the empty space with magnolia branches. I did end up trimming some magnolia leaves here and there that wouldn’t lay right. Just cut accordingly.
I had some leftover lotus pods and pinecones I used to fill in the holes. DECORATING TIP – Always save dried florals that come in your flower arrangements – they keep forever and are great for centerpiece and mantle décor. You can purchase lotus pods at Michaels and on Amazon.
Lastly, I picked up some yellow and orange berries (they have a floral name but I have no clue what it is) when I was at Trader Joes and just slide them into the arrangement to fill it out even more. I have red berries like the above in my yard which would be beautiful with magnolias, apples and pampas grass for Christmas! All in all my Thanksgiving centerpiece cost me less than $20 and it will last longer than a floral arrangement. My kind of decorating!
